Yesterday evening we had a temporar outage of EA online, so not all players could connect to it in order to play BC2. Herewith please find a statement from DICE and reading it through I hope it may help us as well with the problem of showing incorrect server data for some servers. Like we experienced partially with our own servers, showing xx/yy players playing map ZZ, which did not fit the reality and if you tried to join you got a network connection error message.
But read yourself:

Starting on Tuesday 2010-10-19 there has been a growing number of reports in the forum and twitter. Players report that they cannot join game servers, the server browser doesn't show all servers, they are unable to join their friends and such.
This persisted until Tuesday 2010-10-26 10:00 (GMT), when EA's master servers were restarted.
The root cause of this was that a few of the master servers were getting out-of-sync with the other ones. The game would work depending on which master server you were connected to. If you were having problems, logging out and in again would pick a new master server at random.
There used to be similar problems back when BC2 had just launched, and the number of servers and clients was exceptionally high. EA beefed up the backend quite a bit to make it handle the load back then, and synchronization problems have been rare since then.
Given the rarity of the problems, the most effective way to deal with this in the future is to monitor the different master servers more closely, and schedule a restart more urgently than this time.
=====================================
Separately from this, there was a near-outage on Tuesday 2010-10-26 between 17:30 (GMT) and 19:30 (GMT).
This resulted in people randomly dropping out of game sessions, and ultimately getting logged out of EA online. The exact cause of the near-outage is unknown; we are still doing root cause analysis.
Since 19:30 (GMT) the game function is back to normal, and the game peaked at 27k players in game sessions during the night.
