Spawn LAG fix
Posted: 23 Apr 2010, 13:15
So, the new client patch introduces that your weapon layout will be saved. Regardless logging in or out a server. Cool stuff ... however it does now save your weapons layout each time you login and spawn to your GameSettings INI file. Local AntiVirus tools will interfier and check the file(s) every time.
Most players did already realize a so called "spawn lag" while trying to get into the game.
Let me quote Mikael Kalms, DICE developer, from EA UK´s forums:
This is actually a perfectly sensible scenario.
I haven't checked, but it's possible that the game saves your loadout to Documents/BFBC2/<one> every time that you spawn.
If antivirus kicks in for a few seconds, this exact symptom would ensue.
---
... as for the development team, we use McAffee on all machines in our corporate network, with an identical company-wide configuration. I can't speak for the QA lab.
This is likely to be a problem with *some* antivirus products in *some* configurations - apparently not the ones we are running.
---
Telling your AV not to scan in the Documents\BFBC2 directory is a short-term solution.
We will investigate if there is a long-term solution possible (one way to go: contact major AV vendors - another way to go: change how the game does disk I/O for those files - those are at least two solutions off the top of my head)
Okay, so follwing the discussions in the forums I did realize lots of positive feedbacks from other players. So I decided to post it here for everybody to follow.
REASON FOR THE RESPAWN FREEZ:
Your anti-virus(AV) is causing the respawn freez. As a DICE-member stated earlier the problems most likely lies in the saved class file. Every time you respawn the game checks the GameSettings.ini file for class configs, and the AV got some of problem with this, making the game freez for a second, sometimes more.
SOLUTION FOR THE RESPAWN FREEZ:
Add the BFBC2 folder in your "My Documents" to the anti-viruses exeptions-list. [ I've checked, and its the only folder who needs to be added ]
Ex: "C:/Users/[NAME]/My Documents/BFBC2/"
If you are wondring how to make an exeption like this, check this: LINK
